The Intern Perspective: One Month at Bodega

In-house, a big firm, or a small agency? When I was looking for an opportunity to enter the PR industry, I had no idea what I wanted or what to expect. But from the moment I began the interview process with Bodega, I quickly realized that a smaller, female-led team was the ideal place for me to launch my career in PR.

Between the close collaboration, the variety of clients, and the fast-paced (but very supportive!) environment, my first month here has already taught me so much and I can’t wait for the rest of the busy summer.

Here are some of my top takeaways from my first month as an intern at Bodega:

We Do it All

One of the most eye-opening parts of working at a small agency is how hands-on and multifaceted the work is. Everyone wears multiple hats and as an intern, I get to try a bit of everything. From planning and research to pitching and influencer outreach, I’ve been able to see how a campaign comes to life from start to finish.

Collaboration is Everything

I’ve always thrived in collaborative environments, so working on a tight-knit team has been one of my favourite parts of the internship so far. It’s encouraging and inspiring to be part of a team where the collaboration doesn’t just happen in meetings, but is incorporated into the way we work every day.

What I Didn't Expect

Something that pleasantly surprised me? The variety of clients we work with. From restaurants and hotels to beauty brands, the diversity of industries has made each day different and keeps me on my toes. I wasn’t expecting to gain experience across such a wide range of sectors so early in my PR journey, but I’m so grateful for it. It’s giving me the chance to explore what I’m most passionate about, while also helping me be flexible and think outside the box.

Looking Ahead

Overall, my first month at Bodega has been nothing short of amazing and so insightful. For anyone just starting out in PR gaining hands-on experience is everything, and learning in an environment that allows you to see the process from start to finish. So far, I can say that I truly believe a small agency is the best place to start. You’re not just sitting on the sidelines, you’re part of the conversation and contributing to the work. Every day brings a new challenge and a new opportunity to learn.

I feel incredibly lucky to have landed at a place like Bodega, where I’m surrounded by smart, passionate people who are encouraging and like minded. I’ve already grown so much, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer holds.
