Three Months In: My 3 Biggest Takeaways from My Internship at Bodega PR

When I look back on my PR internship at Bodega PR, it’s hard to believe that I’ve already completed three months and am heading into my final month. When I first stepped into this role, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. While people in the industry often say that “no two days are ever the same,” it wasn’t until my first week that I truly understood what that meant.

Taking my first step into the PR industry through this internship has given me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and learn from every challenge and opportunity along the way. Through this experience, I’ve quickly developed key skills and insights that I will carry with me throughout my career and while there are countless lessons that have shaped my journey so far, here are my three biggest takeaways

Say Yes to EVERYTHING

If there’s one lesson that has had the biggest impact on my growth, it’s to say yes to every opportunity. Working at a boutique agency truly means no two days are ever the same. One day I might be pitching to the media, the next prepping PR kits, and another may be dedicated to event support. Every new task has opened my eyes in a different way, and taught me something new.

Stepping outside of my comfort zone is something that's never come naturally to me. Like many interns, I’ve worried about making mistakes or not knowing the right answer, however, being surrounded by a team that believes in me has made all the difference. They’ve always been there to answer questions and give me guidance, while also encouraging me to bring my own perspective and make each project my own.

This balance has taught me that growth comes from embracing opportunities, even when they feel intimidating. Every time you say yes to something unfamiliar, you become a little more knowledgeable and adaptable.

Paying Attention to Details Makes The Biggest Difference

One of the first things I learned throughout my internship is that attention to detail is essential. Whether you’re drafting an email or helping with event coordination, the smallest details can have a significant impact.

Beyond the day-to-day work, I’ve also learned the importance of paying attention to the industry as a whole. PR is constantly evolving, and if you’re not actively paying attention to the space, it’s easy to fall behind.

I’ve found so much value in observing what other brands are doing, noticing emerging trends, and having conversations with people around me about what’s standing out to me. These conversations open my eyes to ideas and perspectives I might not have noticed on my own, and they’ve helped me better understand what makes a campaign impactful. Sometimes, it really is the smallest observation that can lead to the biggest idea.

Confidence Comes From Doing

This is the #1 lesson I’m still learning every day. Every new responsibility can feel overwhelming when you’ve never done it before. It’s easy to overthink and worry about getting something wrong, however, as nice as this would be, there isn’t a shortcut to confidence, and the only way to become confident is by doing the work. It’s important to raise your hand for a new project, ask questions, digest feedback, and continue to show up even when something feels uncomfortable.

I’ve also learned that making mistakes isn’t something to be scared of, and in fact, some of the most valuable lessons come from moments that don’t go perfectly. These experiences don’t define your abilities, but instead they build them. I’ve started to reframe those “oh no” moments into “now I'll know for next time,” and this mindset has made a huge difference in my confidence.

As I continue to build and strengthen my skillset throughout the remainder of my internship and embrace future opportunities ahead, the three lessons I’ve learned during my time at Bodega have been instrumental in helping me navigate the industry with confidence. These experiences have shaped my growth, strengthened my approach, and provided a foundation I will carry with me throughout my career. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn from such an incredible team of driven, passionate, and outstanding women. If you stay curious, embrace every opportunity, and never stop learning, growth will always follow.
